Membership
You are welcome to practice with Mountains & Rivers Zen without becoming a member. However, as a formally incorporated association, membership is available to those who have participated in Mountains & Rivers Zen activities and who wish to show their support and commitment.
Membership is open to all who wish to support and take part in Mountains & Rivers Zen activities. The money you offer as a member supports the following range of activities:
Rentals
Insurance
Website
Scholarships and part-scholarships for unwaged sesshin attendance
Set-up costs of sitting groups
Equipment, such as meditation mats and cushions, kitchen equipment
Travel costs for our teachers
Printing
Banking fees
Cost
Members are asked to make an annual financial offering, self-selected from the sliding scale of $60-$120, depending on your means.

Strong sense of sangha engagement and participation
Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting and other general meetings
Eligibility for election to leadership positions on the Council
Priority and reduced rates for participation in sesshin and other activities
Responsibilities
Becoming a member is a conscious commitment to actively participate in the activities of the sangha according to your circumstances. Committing to membership as fully as possible is an important step in committing to a genuine practice.

How to become a member
You can nominate to become a member by completing the application form, available by contacting one of the Mountains & Rivers Zen leaders. The completed form is submitted to the Membership Officer who will provide it to the next meeting of the Mountains & Rivers Zen Council. The Council will decide whether or not to approve the nomination. As soon as the Council has made this decision, the Membership Officer will notify you, in writing, of the outcome.
If the Council approves your application for membership, your name will be entered in the register of members.
